X3D Special Interest Groups: Public Pages
X3D Special Interest groups are open to all. This open approach provides great value to the public to explore new technologies and applications for X3D and also allows both companies and individual to contribute towards moving the X3D standard forward.

* X3D and Augmented Reality (AR) Special Interest Group efforts are currently handled as part of the and HTML5 effort

X3D Working Groups: Public Pages
Most X3D working groups are Web3D Consortium member-only, since members have agreed to the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy which effectively prevents any royalty-based technology from being adopted by X3D. This approach provides great value to the public, and also allows both companies and individual professionals to contribute to X3D directly as Web3D Consortium members.

Meanwhile each working group can still decide to place some work in the open. For example, all HTML5 work is completely in the open.

Here are our X3D working group public pages:

The goal of the X3D Plugfest is to foster interoperability between X3D players. This is a regular event that brings content authors, authoring tool vendors and browser implementers together to work on interoperability issues. Consistent quality for X3D content helps everyone.

Basic browser support for X3D is tracked on the Player support for X3D components page.

The X3D Plugfest will be held at the Web3D Consortium Members Meeting, Wednesday, March 4th, 2009, at the NASA Ames research facility in Moffett Field, CA.

This page will be the navigation home page for the upcoming X3D Plugfest. Content will be
linked from this page for everyone's review.

Please Note: submitted .x3d files must be zipped before being uploaded. Alternatively, links to online content can be provided.

Description fields: include a description of your content, or else a description of the problem and any results from the browsers you've tested.

Content Release Option: specify whether the content can be released publicly or just distributed to browser implementers for testing.
Editing refers to the changing of a page by a Wikimedia user. Unless certain restrictions are in effect, such as protection, all pages are editable, by everyone. == Restrictions ==
Some pages cannot be edited by everyone. A special function known as protection can be applied to a page by administrators, making the said page uneditable to certain classes of users. There are several degrees of protection:
*If a page is semiprotected, it can be edited by everyone except IPs and accounts that have not yet been confirmed.
*If a page is fully protected, only other admins can make edits to the page.
*A page can also be protected so that it cannot be moved.
*In some cases, an admin might see fit to protect a page from being created.
*For very rare pages, such as the Main Page, "cascading" protection is applied, wherein every page that is transcluded onto a page is protected too.
There are various reasons why a page might be protected. Vandalism and spam can lead to semiprotection, while content wars and other severe cases can lead to full protection. There are other times where Office actions come into play. For the most part, protection is temporary and editing privileges are then restored. In any case, everyone can view the source of any page, irrespective of its level of protection.
